Pump Up the Volume: Help the Red & Black get a new sound system!
Dear friends and allies,
The Red & Black has hosted countless music shows over the past eleven years of our existence. We've hosted everyone from local singer-songwriters to big bands with record label backing, from as far as the other side of the country.
Many all-ages venues in Portland have closed or are on the verge of closing, leaving bands and artists little choice but to play 21+ bar shows most of the time. This inherently excludes younger folks from experiencing live music. The Red & Black seeks to be inclusive of our young friends by maintaining an all-ages (and safer) space.
One obstacle that prevents more bands from playing at the Red & Black is one that often gets overlooked: the sound. For the past several years, we've been stuck with a small, half-broken sound system that barely does its job. It is our goal to get a new P.A with mounted speakers, a mixing board, and microphones. We are confident that this will have the following benefits:
* Encourage more established bands to play at the Red & Black
* Provide a consistent option for presentations, lectures and booking readings where the speaker must be heard over general kitchen noise
* Provide Portland with an option for a solid all-ages venue
* Diversify the kind of events we can have
If you're able to, please consider contributing to this fundraising goal. It will make us more of a community resource and will show some solidarity with folks that can't always get into - or don't feel comfortable going to - bars.
Help us Pump Up the Volume!
Love and revolution,
Red and Black
